Wongs In Taiwan

Reaching the youth of Taiwan with the Gospel

Clarence & Rachel Wong

We, Clarence (Singapore) and Rachel (USA), first met on the mission field in 2009 on board a ship, the MV Doulos, and our first port together was in Cambodia. As the ship traveled around Asia, we hosted locals at the bookstore onboard the ship, partnered with local churches in the area, and served the community in various ways.

Rachel served the following year in the Philippines, then moved back home. We spent a year on different sides of the globe before getting married in January 2012 and moving to Singapore for work. In 2013, we relocated to the US and have since added three beautiful children to our family; Haven, Abel, and Arden.

In the spring of 2024, we felt the tug of God to serve again in an evangelistic role overseas, which led us to connect with the Word of Life team in Taiwan, and the SYME program. We are excited to see how God will use this experience to shape our family and impact the students in Taiwan, as we put our YES on the table for Him.

What We Do

SYME

SYME is a Christian Organization that offers an intensive full-immersion English learning environment through our biblical discipleship program. SYME is an acronym for the Chinese words for Bible, Friendship, Discipleship, and English. Our program is designed to improve students’ conversational English, show them what a Christian family looks like, and help them discover a faith with God.

Rooted

Our Alumni program, Rooted, is a weekly Mandarin-speaking discipleship evening. Our goal is to pour into and equip our alumni so that they can serve in the many local churches throughout Taiwan as well as gain the confidence and ability to share the gospel with their friends and family. Taiwan is only 2% Christian, so spreading the gospel in Chinese is so needed here!

Organic ministry Opportunities

We will continue homeschooling our children and it will be our daily prayer that God will give us opportunities to share the gospel with the Taiwanese people we interact with. We are open-handed and look forward to being a part of the work God is doing in Taiwan to draw people to Himself.

Take Action

Our Organization

Word of Life is committed to creating opportunities for youth and families in over 80 countries around the world to experience their faith and share the message of salvation with those who have never heard.

Partner with us

Though God has personally called us to serve Him overseas, we know we couldn't do it without partners who make it financially possible for us to take the gospel to the people of Taiwan. We'd love to have you join our team and be part of what God is doing in this beautiful nation!

Testimonials

“The Wong family has a clear call to advance the Gospel globally. Our church is sending, partnering, & praying with them
as they go!”

Michael Bayne

It’s hard to overstate the role that Clarence and Rachel played in my faith journey. My wife and I had just moved away from our community and it was a dark time for us without friends or family nearby. Rachel was so welcoming to my wife when she first attended Greenville Community Church. She invited us to join their small group which was a big step for me as a non-believer. Over the years their friendship, discipleship, and small group led to my wife being saved.

As I continued to watch, listen, and participate in small group and church, I began to really investigate Christianity. I admired the way Clarence and Rachel lived their lives as followers of Jesus. Their continued encouragement, friendship, and prayer through life’s ups and downs played a significant role in my path to finding God. I’m truly grateful for them.
